Alexis stared in disbelief. Since when were those two so chummy? She didn’t remember anyone telling her.
By the time Rebecca got home, her stomach pain had completely faded. She took a long, hot shower, slipped into her pajamas, and curled up on her bed. In the bag Paul had handed her earlier, she found painkillers, a bottle of water, and some pads. She popped a painkiller right away.
Paul had helped her out twice now, and Rebecca knew she couldn’t just brush it off. She needed to thank him properly. She grabbed her phone, scrolled to Paul’s chat, and paused for a second before typing, “Thanks for everything today. Let me treat you to dinner when you’re free.”
A few minutes later, Paul messaged back. “No problem. Friday evening works for me. I actually have something work-related I want to ask you about.”
Rebecca grinned at her phone. “Sounds good. How about 7 p.m. on Friday? Any preference for food? I’ll book a spot.”
“Anything’s fine, really. I’m not picky. Just pick a place you like.”
“Alright, I’ll send you the address once I've made the reservation.”
After their chat, Paul leaned back on his couch, fiddling with a little bear keychain in his hand. He stared at it for a moment, then tucked it into his bag. His phone lit up again on the coffee table. This time, it was their group chat.
Morris: [Drinks tonight, anyone? Found a new place, and the girls there are unreal.]
Morris was the textbook definition of a party boy. He was always down for a good time and had a reputation for hanging out with celebrities and influencers. If Morris said the girls were hot, they definitely were.
Nobody replied. Morris started tagging them one by one, even dropping a few pictures of girls in revealing outfits.
Paul replied first. [Can’t. You have fun.]
A minute later, Bruce chimed in. [Working late.]
Morris sent a sneaky-looking emoji. [Working late with Sonja, huh?]
