Kiara still had no idea who Zoey was, but she nodded casually and said, "Okay."
Seeing that Kiara seemed to accept it, Gilbert’s lips curved into a faint smile.
"Let’s eat," he said softly.
Kiara nodded again. "Mm."
Meanwhile, Ariana was at home, lost in thought. Her daughter slept soundly beside her, cared for by the nanny, the gentle rustle of the kicked-off blanket occasionally punctuating the quiet. But with each restless shift of the child, Ariana’s mood grew more unsettled.
Her mind kept circling back to what Bran had said to her the other day.
The Moore Group…
Ariana had never imagined she would one day be connected to that corporation—so much so that she couldn’t help wondering if Bran had mistaken her for someone else. The thought nagged at her until she rose and walked to her vanity, studying her reflection closely, searching for any trace of resemblance to Bran.
The nanny had been watching her quietly from the side, and finally, she spoke up cautiously.
"Madam, are you feeling unwell?" she asked gently. Ariana had been wearing a troubled expression all day, and the nanny wouldn’t have dared to ask otherwise.
Ariana shook her head. "It’s nothing."
But then her brow furrowed again, and she turned to the nanny. "Tell me… do I look like I might have any Western ancestry?"
The nanny was taken aback. She blinked, studying Ariana’s face carefully before answering honestly, "From a distance, not really… but your eyes are deeper-set than most women’s."
People often said Ariana resembled Irene, but in truth, Ariana was far more striking in appearance.
Her eyes held a certain depth, and her hair wasn’t a pure, solid black. But then, many girls had hair in shades of flaxen, brown, or dark brunette, so Ariana’s hair color didn’t particularly stand out. Only she herself knew the truth—she had never dyed her hair.
Ariana froze for a moment, lost in thought.
A complicated feeling stirred inside her. Could it be… was he telling the truth? Was he really her biological brother? And did that mean she had a biological father out there?
The unsettling possibility left her restless and uneasy. She stood silently for a long while, then finally closed her eyes, trying to clear her mind. The nanny had no idea what was going on with Ariana.
But she was just the nanny.
Some things were better left unknown, so she pretended not to notice and continued tending to the sleeping baby.
Ariana remained lost in her thoughts, so absorbed that she didn’t even notice when Lucian and Kevin returned home from school. The two boys were delighted to see their mother at home and called out to her excitedly, but she didn’t respond, still lost in her daze.
Lucian and Kevin exchanged a puzzled glance.
Lucian stepped forward, gently nudged his mother’s hand, and blinked. "Mom?"
Only then did Ariana snap back to reality.
She looked at Lucian and Kevin with surprise, as though just realizing they had come home. Noticing the confusion in their eyes, Lucian said helplessly, "Mom, my brother and I called you several times, but you didn’t answer."
Kevin nodded in agreement.
Ariana offered an awkward, apologetic smile. "Sorry, sweethearts, I didn’t hear you." She reached out and ruffled their hair gently. "How about this—I’m thinking of taking you both to the amusement park this weekend. Would you like that?" It was something she had always wanted to do.
Now that her schedule was relatively free, she wanted to spend more time with them.
