Carson stubbornly turned his face away, refusing to speak.
Ariana couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
She knew that, given her youngest son’s pride, this was his last shred of "dignity." Strangely enough, Carson didn’t resemble Lambert in any other way—except for this one trait, his pride, which mirrored his father’s almost perfectly. The problem was, he lacked Lambert’s cunning and intelligence.
If he didn’t learn to temper this stubborn pride as he grew older, it would surely lead him into trouble.
But then again, perhaps it wasn’t something to worry about too much.
With his older brothers, Lucian and Kevin, watching over him, her youngest son likely wouldn’t face any serious hardships.
Ariana gently ruffled his hair and said softly, "Let’s go."
Carson remained silent, but he shuffled his feet forward, quietly signaling his reluctant agreement.
Kevin, standing nearby, observed the scene in silence.
A faint sense of irritation and unease stirred in his chest—a gnawing fear that his mother was being taken away from him. The thought left him deeply unsettled. Yet, he was skilled at masking his emotions. Despite being only a few years old, his intelligence already surpassed that of children his age.
Even Lucian, at that age, probably hadn’t been as sharp as Kevin.
…
On the way, Carson and Kevin walked on either side of Ariana.
Ariana glanced at her two young sons and asked softly, "Would you like to go to the amusement park?"
Carson's eyes immediately lit up at the suggestion.
After all, he was still a child—the lure of an amusement park was irresistible. He bit his lower lip, stealing a look at his mother, but held back from speaking. Meanwhile, Kevin remained silent for a few seconds before offering a gentle smile. "That sounds nice, but isn't Grandpa’s birthday coming up? Should we go after his celebration?"
Ariana turned to her second son and shook her head. "Grandpa’s birthday is in three days. Tomorrow is the weekend—I’ll take you out then."
Kevin beamed. "Okay."
As for Carson, he still hadn’t said a word, but his tightly clenched little hands betrayed his inner excitement. Ariana noticed but didn’t comment further until they finally arrived home and stepped into the living room.
She paused and turned to face Carson.
The boy grew tense under her gaze, his small face paling as he instinctively took a half-step back.
Ariana looked toward Kevin and said gently, "Kevin, go to your room and start on your homework. I need to talk with your brother."
Kevin glanced at Carson, then put on an obedient smile. "Alright." With that, he headed upstairs. Only after he had disappeared did Ariana’s attention return fully to Carson.
She spoke calmly, "Your teacher told me you’ve been getting into fights at school. Why?"
Carson’s expression shifted instantly. Clenching his small fists, he snorted defiantly. "No reason. I just felt like hitting them."
Ariana let out an exasperated laugh. "And what if you run into someone stronger than you? What if they decide they just feel like hitting you—what would you do then?"
Carson blinked, his face a mask of indifference. "If they’re strong enough to beat me, then I guess I had it coming. I wouldn’t do anything."
