The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 210

Gideon stood by the bed, looking at Nora, who had only her head poking out from under the covers.

His gaze lingered on his own slightly damp cuffs for a moment before he let out a self-deprecating chuckle.

Aside from Giselle, he had never lowered himself to take care of anyone like this in his entire life.

Back when Giselle used to get sick, he would stay up all night keeping watch by her bed just like this.

A soft knock came at the door, and a maid brought in a bowl of hangover soup the kitchen had hastily prepared, before respectfully retreating and closing the door.

Gideon carried the bowl of warm plum hangover soup to the bed. He scooped up a spoonful and offered it to Nora's lips.

"Nora, drink the hangover soup."

Nora caught the scent in her sleep. Instinctively repulsed, she immediately turned her head away, pressing her lips tightly together, her frown deepening as her face screamed refusal.

"No... take it away..."

Seeing her tight-lipped, utterly uncooperative demeanor, a flash of daze crossed Gideon's eyes, quickly followed by a soft chuckle.

This unreasonable attitude looked remarkably like Giselle when she refused to take her medicine.

Whenever Giselle got sick, she dreaded drinking those bitter medicinal brews the most. Every time he approached with the medicine bowl, Giselle would act just like this—turning her head away, clamping her mouth shut, and even waving her hands to push the bowl away.

She would even hide her entire body under the covers, refusing to come out no matter how hard he pulled, crying and throwing tantrums simultaneously.

She always forced him to patiently coax her for two or three hours using various expensive vintage toys and the gentlest tone before she would begrudgingly take a tiny sip.

As he looked at Nora, the irritation in his heart dissipated significantly without him even realizing it.

It suddenly occurred to him that in the three years Nora had lived in this villa, he had seemingly never examined her from such a close distance and with such a peaceful mindset.

Just as Gideon was about to pull his hand back, Nora, lying on the pillow, suddenly shifted.

She woke up groggily, her eyes still squeezed shut, lips parting slightly as a muffled, indistinct murmur slipped from her throat.

"The year I was sixteen... it was pouring rain..."

Nora's voice was thick with a nasal drawl, sounding incredibly pitiful and helpless. "In that dark alleyway... you saved me... you clearly saved me..."

"You held a steel pipe, your hands covered in blood... you saved me... you told me to run..."

Hearing those words, Gideon's movements froze mid-air.
