Gideon set down his white porcelain teacup, his dark pupils locking onto Nora's pale cheeks.
He sharply sensed the jagged defensiveness and exhaustion rolling off her, and his brow furrowed slightly.
"Why do you look so pale?"
Gideon's voice was deep, laced with a hint of probing. "Did you go to the studio?"
"I went to see a client."
Nora brushed him off casually, her eyes dropping to the wood grain on the coffee table, refusing to engage in any unnecessary eye contact with him.
Noticing the awkward chill in the air, her dad hurriedly rubbed his hands together and tried to smooth things over with a smile. "Gideon, Nora's been swamped with work lately, please be understanding. Oh, by the way, about the Southside development project we were just talking about, do you think Xavier Enterprises could..."
Gideon pulled his gaze away from Nora and turned to her dad, his expression reverting to its usual coldness. "Dad, the Hayes Group has already handed the Southside project over to a professional assessment team. As long as the qualifications of Xavier Enterprises meet the standard, the Hayes Group will naturally greenlight the process."
Her dad's smile stiffened for a second before he nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Just then, a flurry of hurried footsteps sounded from the staircase on the second floor.
Nathan came bounding down the stairs in designer casual wear, carefully cradling an exquisitely wrapped velvet box in his hands.
"Mom, where did I leave my car keys?"
Nathan yelled out as he descended. His eyes swept across the living room, and his footsteps came to a jarring halt.
He saw Nora sitting on the sofa, and then he saw Gideon sitting in the seat of honor.
Nathan's face instantly darkened, his previously casual posture morphing into blatant hostility. He strode over to the coffee table, clutching the velvet box protectively to his chest, and shot Nora a cold glare.
"What are you doing back here?"
Dangerous, dark currents churned in his deep eyes as his gaze landed coldly on the velvet box in Nathan's hands.
Giselle didn't need any unnecessary male presence hovering around her, even if that person was Nora's own brother.
If he hadn't been taking Nora into consideration, he would have long since pulled strings to run Nathan out of their social circles for good.
Gideon slowly lifted his eyelids, his gaze cutting right past Nathan to stare directly at Nora.
Those dark eyes carried a clear warning and a command, the implication obvious—rein in your brother and keep him from bothering Giselle.
Nora met Gideon's oppressive stare and let out a sarcastic sneer in her heart.
He wanted her to rein him in?

The readers' comments on the novel: The Love I Begged For Was Never Real
Storyline is good..but author is wasting time on character's thoughts.why r u streching chapters it's really really boring and annoying.conversation between them childish.she is only saying him get out n what right do u have ..not telling him what he did to her not questioning him..demanding answer. And what happened to him why sudden change of heart care to explain author.....
For the past few chapters either she is sick or he is. It is slightly boring. Author pls let them talk about the issues , she is not at all scolding him.. every scoldings are playing in her mind only. We want some talk between them....
I am also thinking the same....
Has he mistaken Nora as Giselle?...
What happened to him🤔 did he forget everything?...
Hey can u also upload the book " woke up married to my cheating ex"....
Does he know the orphan girl is actually Nora?...
So is he trying to justify everything? At wat rite??? Wer were he wen she needed him the most.......
Haha finally going to see redemption...
I don’t think reborn will happen in this novel. It will be full of her blood only. Actually The title should be changed to only Nora’s suffering instead the love I begged was never real....
