Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 102

When Sonja got the news, her heart dropped. Was it possible that the gift she had given Scott had been discovered?

But the middleman told her not to worry. That little present wasn’t enough to count as bribery. If Scott was in trouble, it had to be because he’d accepted something bigger. She supposed it made sense. With his position, even a vague hint could bring in enough kickbacks to make anyone’s head spin.

But personal issues… that was different. Scott had a girlfriend. He was just an average guy, and not the type to do anything scandalous, at least as far as she knew. Sonja couldn’t figure out what exactly “personal issues” meant in this context. The middleman hadn’t managed to find out, either.

She thought back over everything. Since coming back to the country, she’d been careful every time she chatted with Scott. No matter how much he tested or hinted, she kept things strictly professional. Maybe there was some harmless flirting, but it never crossed the line into anything that could be called misconduct.

Other than that…

Sonja glanced at Lottie, who was lying in the hospital bed. She pulled up a chair and sat down. “Lottie, remember that night I introduced you to Scott? I had to go back to the office and work late. Did anything happen between you?”

She didn’t finish the question, but Lottie understood exactly what she meant.

Lottie looked embarrassed. She tugged at her hair, her cheeks turning pink. “I woke up the next morning at home. My housekeeper said a man brought me back. I asked her quietly later, and she said all my clothes were fine that night.”

Her voice trailed off, barely above a whisper.

Sonja finally relaxed. “Alright. That’s all I needed to know.”

If nothing happened, then whatever misconduct Scott was accused of had nothing to do with NovaStack Cloud. Bribery or personal issues, it was all on him. She and the company wouldn’t be dragged into it.

Sonja felt completely at ease for the first time in days.

She noticed some fruit on the table, so she peeled an orange and handed it to Lottie, who looked both shocked and thrilled. Sonja, the kind of person who never did anything for anyone, was actually peeling her an orange. It felt like a huge honor.

“Thank you, Sonja.”

But then, thinking about how they’d lost the project bid, Lottie’s guilt bubbled up again. After all, it was her so-called sister who had taken it from them.
