Rebecca blinked her eyes open, turning to face her.

This time, she didn’t rush to say no. Instead, she asked, “Do you know what happened between me and Bruce?”

Sonja lifted an eyebrow. “What exactly was going on?”

In that moment, Rebecca realized Sonja had known all along she and Bruce were together.

She frowned. “You knew, and you’re still asking me to come back? Doesn’t that bother you?”

Sonja just smiled. “Why would it? I mean, it makes sense you are into Bruce. He’s good-looking, rich, and knows what he’s doing. As long as he’s mine from now on, I don’t really care about his past.”

Rebecca let out a cold laugh. “You really are generous, Sonja. But I care.”

Sonja’s lips curled up. “You know, if I were you, I’d come back.”

“Oh? Why’s that?” Rebecca watched her quietly.

“Let’s be real. You are just a normal girl. Marrying Stephen is not gonna happen. If you come back to NovaStack Cloud, you’ll get a raise. I’ll even make sure Bruce gives you stock options. Once the company goes public next year, you’ll be rolling in it. Way more than you’d ever get at Sunforge Tech.”

Rebecca went quiet.

It was true, people cut from the same cloth always find each other.

She’d thought Sonja was clueless about her and Bruce, and that she might be a victim. Now it was obvious she’d been wrong. Sonja knew everything, and it was possible she’d planned it out from the start.

The realization sent a chill down Rebecca’s spine.

What did this woman really want? Did she just show up to snatch Bruce away?

Her gut said no. There had to be more going on.

Sonja saw the look on her face and thought she was finally giving in. She was about to keep pushing when Rebecca cut her off.

“I’ve told Mr. Lamont from your company again and again that I’m not coming back, but he doesn’t seem to hear me. So, do me a favor and pass it on. I am never going back to NovaStack Cloud. Not in this lifetime.”

“And two things, just so we’re clear. One, I never tried to chase after Mr. Duncan. My relationship with him was strictly professional. Two, who says NovaStack Cloud is going public next year?”

Rebecca’s lips curved into a small smile. She leaned forward and said to the groom, “Can we pick up the pace?”
