The next day was Rebecca’s last in Northgate.
That morning, she and Cindy stopped by two more clients. Neither of them seemed interested. They barely listened, got up halfway through their pitch, and left without a second glance.
Cindy was fuming. “Seriously? Could they be any ruder? They didn’t even pretend to care.”
Rebecca was already packing up her laptop, totally unfazed. “This is just how it is. We’re basically like those people who keep calling to sell you stuff. Imagine how you feel when you get a spam call.”
Cindy made a face and groaned. “Okay, fair point.”
After lunch, they checked out of the hotel and grabbed a cab to the airport.
Stephen had to stick around for more client meetings, so he wasn’t coming with them.
But, as luck would have it, Bruce and Sonja turned out to be on the same flight.
Cindy scoffed quietly. “There’s no way this is a coincidence. Someone’s definitely leaking info.”
Rebecca glanced at them, then looked away, refusing to give them another thought.
On the way to boarding, Sonja leaned in to talk to Bruce. “When we rode together yesterday, I tried again to convince Ms. Harper to come back. She’s dead set against it. She even snapped at me.”
Bruce’s eyes turned icy. “If she doesn’t want to come back, then leave her alone.”
“What about the non-compete?”
“We’ll sue her. As planned.”
Sonja’s lips curled into a sly smile. “Alright.”
She shot Rebecca a look from across the lounge. If you won’t be on my side, then I’ll have to destroy you for anyone else.
By the time their plane landed in Coralbridge, the sky was already dark. Rebecca and Cindy went their separate ways, each catching a ride home.
When Rebecca walked in, Samantha was just coming out of the kitchen, apron still on, smiling. “Perfect timing. I just finished dinner and you’re home.”
Rebecca grinned and wrapped her arms around her mom, acting like a little kid. “I’ve got a sixth sense for good food.”
Samantha laughed, patting her head. “Aren’t you a bit old for this?”
She didn’t want her mom stuck between her daughters. If Lottie was good to their mother, Rebecca could let some things slide.
After dinner, Rebecca went straight to her room.
The first thing she did was check the tiny camera she’d hidden in the corner. Sure enough, there was Lottie, sneaking out in her dress. The sight made her stomach turn.
She dug through her closet until she found the expensive dress. It still smelled like someone else’s perfume.
Rebecca pinched her nose and tossed the dress in the trash.
She knew then, without a doubt, she and Lottie were done.
Their sisterhood, just like that dress, was over. Buried for good.

After three days away, Rebecca came back to a mountain of work. She spent all morning in the conference room with Justin, catching up on projects.
In the break room, Greg turned and caught sight of them through the glass. His face twisted with pure disgust.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
Can't wait for the next update! 😍...
Honestly, Rebecca's mother needs to be called out for pettiness. At the same time, Rebecca needs to explain her work situation to her mother....
