Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 153

Lottie grabbed her by the wrist. “Come on, spill it. Quit stalling!”

Aliyah pulled away, wrinkling her nose. “Mom and Dad have been busy trying to set you up. There’s this Lewis from Greenpeace Group. He’s supposed to be a decent catch. He doesn’t care about your background and, honestly, you two are...”

She paused, giving Lottie a once-over with a raised eyebrow. “A perfect match.”

Yeah, right.

Robert and Olivia had never treated her well since she moved in. The thought of them suddenly wanting to find her a rich, well-matched husband? Not a chance. There had to be something else behind this. No way would they just do her a favor.

She stomped upstairs, slammed her bedroom door, and tossed her bag to the floor. She didn’t even bother washing up before flopping down in front of her laptop.

She searched for Greenpeace Group’s website. Lewis’s face stared back at her from the homepage—bloated cheeks, a massive belly, like a man seven months pregnant. The sight made her stomach churn.

Feeling sick, she started looking up gossip about him. It didn’t take long before she found a thread on a local forum.

Turns out, Lewis had already been married twice. Both wives had died in “accidents.”

Some people said he was cursed. Others whispered that those so-called accidents were actually murder.

Reading that sent chills all over her skin.

She knew it. There was no way Robert and Olivia wanted anything good for her. This had to be some sort of trade-off, a favor for someone else. But what could she do? How was she supposed to fight back?

If she hadn’t fallen out with the Harpers, she could’ve run to them for help. Samantha and Rebecca would have taken her in, no questions asked. But after that blow-up, she refused to crawl back and apologize.

Wait, there was still one person she could turn to.

Lottie grabbed her phone and called Sonja.

“Sonja, I swear I wasn’t trying to defend Rebecca. I cut things off with her tonight. From now on, I’ll only listen to you. Please, you have to believe me!”

Her voice cracked, thick with tears.

On the other end, Sonja paused, then let out a soft laugh. “Lottie, you’re overthinking it. I never doubted you.”

Lottie’s eyes brightened. “Really?”
