Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 166

Two days flew by so fast, it barely felt real.

Rebecca’s last exam was her best subject, so she finished early and handed in her paper with a huge sigh of relief. She could finally relax for a bit.

As she walked out, the campus was quiet, almost peaceful. Here and there, little groups of students were chatting and laughing, already making plans for Christmas tomorrow.

She checked her phone. Cindy had sent her a message.

[Come to the restaurant when you’re done. We’re waiting for you.]

Rebecca couldn’t help but smile. [Just finished. Heading over now.]

She was so focused on texting her reply that she didn’t notice someone right in front of her. She bumped into them, hard.

Her phone hit the ground with a loud clatter.

Rebecca instinctively bent down to grab it, but someone else got there first.

“Thank you. I’m really sorry. I wasn’t paying attention,” she said, embarrassed.

Shawn just smiled. “Don’t worry about it.”

He glanced at the folder in her hand. “Did you just finish the exam? What did you apply?”

“Yeah, Financial Engineering.” Rebecca thought it was a weird question coming from a stranger, but since he’d just helped her out, she answered.

She was about to leave when he looked at her, almost studying her. “Larkhaven College’s Financial Engineering program is pretty impressive.”

Rebecca nodded. “It is, actually.”

She shot him another puzzled look, then said, “I should get going. Thanks again.”

Even after she got in the taxi, she caught a glimpse of the man still standing at the gate, watching her through the rearview mirror. His eyes weren’t just following her. It was more like he was looking right through her, searching for someone he’d been missing for a long time.

What a strange guy.

As Rebecca’s cab drove off, Shawn pulled a small brooch from his pocket. The words Larkhaven College shimmered on it, a souvenir from the school’s centennial celebration.

“I made it to your college, Anna,” Shawn whispered, his voice barely holding steady as his eyes turned teary.

Rebecca’s phone rang just as she was about to reach the restaurant. It was Judy. Rebecca could hear the noise in the background, which meant Judy must have just finished her own exam.

“Hey, Judy?”

Rebecca got out of the taxi and headed into the restaurant. Right at the entrance, she almost bumped into Sonja, who was coming out.

Rebecca didn’t know her well, so she didn’t stop, just walked straight for the private rooms upstairs.

But Sonja called out to her.

Sonja eyed the stationery bag in Rebecca’s hand, raising an eyebrow. “Lottie told me you were applying to grad school. I thought she was kidding, but I guess it’s true.”

“It must be tough, going back to school at your age.”

She paused, then added, “Oh, sorry, I forgot. You’re applying for a part-time program, right? I’ve heard those degrees don’t really count for much.”

Rebecca looked at her coldly, arching a brow. “So, Dr. Campbell, you’re dropping the act now?”

Sonja frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Rebecca’s tone was cool. “You know exactly what I mean.”

She used to think Sonja just wasn’t very capable. Now she realized there was a lot more wrong with her than that.
