Inside NovaStack Cloud, after the failed product launch, the break room had basically turned into a safe haven for everyone to let off steam.

“Did you see how Sunforge Tech totally wiped the floor with us? What’s the point of having someone with a Ph.D.? She’s got the diploma, but actually, she can’t even hold a candle to Rebecca, and Rebecca only has a bachelor’s degree.”

“Seriously. And isn’t it weird? She’s supposed to be some big expert, but every time we have a meeting, she barely says a word. It’s always her assistant handling things, like he’s the real brains behind the operation.”

“Did you guys catch that news about the fake Ph.D. from the hospital? Makes you wonder, right…”

Everyone exchanged a look, all thinking the same thing.

The room went quiet.

One woman covered her mouth, eyes wide. “No way. You think that’s what’s going on?”

“Why not? Rich people are always pulling off wild stuff. It’s not like we haven’t seen this before.”

Once they’d torn apart her credentials, the gossip moved to Bruce’s love life.

“Oh, did you guys hear? When Megan left, she told her team that Mr. Lamont and Rebecca were basically engaged. But then that woman showed up and split them up.”

“Are you serious? Is that for real?”

“It’s true. A bunch of old employees can back it up. I used to think Mr. Lamont was actually a decent guy, you know? Like, professional and above all this drama. Guess I was totally wrong.”

“So that means both of them are awful. Just a cheating jerk and a homewrecker.”

That last jab came from Penny. Ever since Rebecca quit, Penny had nothing good to say about Bruce or Sonja.

Now, hearing about their messy relationship, she couldn’t hold back.

But suddenly, the whole room froze.

Penny looked around, confused. “What? Why is everyone so quiet all of a sudden?”

HR wanted to scream, but he kept a straight face. He thought, It’s not my fault you and your girlfriend are a disaster and I’m stuck hiring nonstop.

But out loud, he stayed calm. “Everyone who left said it was for personal reasons. We tried to get them to stay, but they’d already made up their minds.”

“And most of them? They’ve been hired by Sunforge Tech.”

Bruce’s frown deepened. “They’re working at Sunforge Tech now?”

HR nodded quickly. “Yeah. After Sunforge Tech’s big product launch, their orders exploded. They needed people fast, so they started hiring. A lot of the people who left us went straight there.”

Seeing Bruce’s face get darker and darker, HR lowered his voice.

In his head, he thought, If Sunforge Tech’s HR team wasn’t already full, I’d be out of here too.

Bruce gripped his pen so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
