Sonja knocked on the door and stepped inside. The HR manager immediately took the hint and slipped out.
“Bruce, are you okay? You look awful.” Sonja sat down across from him. When he didn’t answer, she jumped in with her report.
“I just heard from Union Currency. They’ve pulled out of our partnership and signed with Sunforge Tech instead.”
Knowing she’d probably be blamed in the end, Sonja didn’t waste any time shifting the blame.
“This is all on Rebecca. She’s the one stealing our clients. We were about to seal the deal with Union Currency, then she butted in. She knew exactly what she was doing.”
Rebecca again.
Bruce felt his temples throbbing. First, she took his employees. Now, she was after his clients too. It was just too much.
Sonja watched his face carefully. She could see the anger in his eyes, so she pushed her point. “And it gets worse. The other clients who were waiting to work with us are all going to Sunforge Tech now. All because of Rebecca’s patent.”
At the mention of the patent, Bruce gave her a cold look.
He wasn’t stupid.
A lot of this he could pin on Rebecca, but not the patent. That wasn’t on her.
He tugged at his collar, clearly impatient. “Instead of complaining, maybe focus on signing new clients.”
Sonja was caught off guard by how harsh he sounded and felt a flash of irritation.
How was any of this her fault? Wasn’t it his ex causing all the chaos?
But she bit her tongue, remembering what she wanted. She just nodded quietly and promised to do everything she could to fix things.
With business out of the way, Sonja moved closer, resting her hands on his shoulders. There was hope in her eyes. “Remember, our parents are meeting this weekend.”
Bruce rubbed his forehead. “The company’s a mess right now. We should put personal stuff on hold and cancel for now.”
“This weekend, I’m calling a meeting with all the execs. We need a solid plan to win our clients back.”
Sonja knew he wasn’t changing his mind about the family meeting, and she still felt upset.
But he’s being so gentle, and she didn’t want to push any further. She knew if she acted out too much, he might start to resent her.
That evening, Rebecca headed home after work.
Things at work were hectic, but everything was finally moving in the right direction. She felt good, almost light on her feet. She didn’t even notice the Maybach parked in the shadows nearby.
“Rebecca.”
A deep voice called out from the dark. She turned around instinctively.
Bruce was there, stepping out of his car and walking toward her.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
