Lottie’s eyes burned with jealousy and frustration. She had spent so long trying to get Paul’s attention, doing everything she could think of, even hoping she might get pregnant just to tie him to her. But Rebecca... Rebecca hadn’t done anything at all, and somehow Paul was obsessed with her. It just wasn’t fair.
Swiping away her tears, Lottie stared down at the photo on her phone. A crooked smile tugged at her lips. Rebecca, there’s no way I’m letting you marry into the Larson family. You broke up with your ex and immediately started toying with his best friend. That’s just shameless. The Larsons have a reputation to protect. No way would they ever accept a daughter-in-law with a messy past.
Lottie sent the photo to Sonja. Within seconds, her phone buzzed with a call.
“Where did you get this?” Sonja’s voice was sharp.
“At the hospital,” Lottie replied, trying to sound casual. “Rebecca really has no shame, flirting with Mr. Larson. If his parents found out, they’d never accept her.”
Sonja let out a cold laugh. “So, you want me to play messenger and send the picture to Paul’s mom, is that it?”
Lottie hesitated, caught off guard. “N-no, that’s not what I meant. I just think Rebecca isn’t good enough for Paul.”
Sonja’s voice turned icy. “Oh, so she’s not good enough... but you think you are? Lottie, don’t act like I don’t know what you’re thinking. You’d better wise up and stop dreaming about people who are out of your reach.”
“S-Sonja, I... I’m not!” Lottie bit her lip, stung by Sonja’s sudden change in attitude. They used to be close. When had things shifted? It must have been after the failed product launch. Ever since then, Sonja had been cold, barely even looking at her in the office. She always had someone else pass along work assignments. It was all Rebecca’s fault. If Rebecca hadn’t pulled her little stunt and embarrassed Sonja in front of everyone, things wouldn’t be like this.
Lottie nodded, even though Sonja couldn’t see her. “Exactly.”
Sonja almost sounded pleased. “See, you’re not totally useless. I’ll send that picture to Paul’s mom. But don’t blame me for being blunt. There’s a huge gap between you and Paul. It’s never going to happen.”
A bitter ache settled in Lottie’s chest. She touched her stomach, feeling the slight curve there. Of course she knew. There was no future for her and Paul.
After the call ended, Lottie wandered toward the hospital entrance, her mind spinning. She barely noticed where she was going, and before she knew it, she almost ran straight into Rebecca and her mother.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
Can't wait for the next update! 😍...
Honestly, Rebecca's mother needs to be called out for pettiness. At the same time, Rebecca needs to explain her work situation to her mother....
