Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 242

Lottie’s eyes flickered with guilt for a split second, but what really showed was anger. She glared at Rebecca and her mother, not even bothering to say hello, and just walked right past them.

“That girl is such a disappointment. There’s an old saying, you give someone a little kindness and they’re grateful, but too much and they turn on you. It’s true,” Samantha said with a sigh and shook her head. She had poured just as much love into raising Lottie as she had into her own daughter. In the end, it all fell apart, and now they were basically enemies.

She never talked about it during the day, but every night, when the house was quiet, Samantha would sit alone with an old family photo and cry. She used to hope that Lottie was still young, that maybe one day she would realize how much her family had cared for her. But seeing the hatred in Lottie’s eyes today had crushed whatever hope Samantha had left. There was nothing more she could do. From now on, they would just be strangers to each other.

“Rebecca, what are you thinking about?” Samantha asked, giving her daughter’s arm a little tug when she noticed Rebecca staring off into space.

Rebecca snapped out of it and turned back to her mom. “It’s nothing, Mom. Let’s not talk about the past. Why don’t we take a walk through those trees?”

As they walked, Rebecca couldn’t shake the weird feeling she had. When Lottie turned away earlier, she’d absentmindedly touched her stomach. And now that Rebecca thought about it, there was a tiny bump starting to show. Lottie had always obsessed over her figure, sticking to salads and boiled veggies for years. There was no way she’d let herself get even a tiny bit out of shape. Unless... unless she was pregnant.

Rebecca frowned, her heart skipping a beat. No way. That couldn’t be, could it?

Meanwhile, thanks to a tip from Lottie, Sonja had hired a private investigator to look into Rebecca’s father’s whereabouts. The investigator got results fast. The day Sonja got the report, all she could do was laugh. The world really was this small. The person she’d been searching for had been right there the whole time. Maybe this was some kind of twisted fate between her and Rebecca.

She drove home, lost in thought. When she walked in, her mother Avery had just arrived from work. Avery had been running the Campbell family business for years. Alan helped out, but since he wasn’t really family, no one ever fully trusted him.

“I’m so thirsty,” Avery complained as soon as she walked in, and her face showed she was in a mood.

Sonja took a glass of water from one of the maids and handed it over, smiling. “Here, Mom.”

“You’re my sweetheart. You really can’t count on men for anything,” Avery said.
