The host soon took the stage, and after a few words to welcome everyone, the ceremony officially began. Rebecca found her seat and sat down, fidgeting with her phone, thinking about messaging Stephen. She wanted to ask, Where are you? Why haven’t I seen you here today? The group walked to the front row and stopped. The district head smiled at Stephen.

Stephen nodded politely. “Thank you.” He turned to glance around the room. His eyes landed on Rebecca and rested there for a moment before he finally sat down.

Rebecca felt a tightness in her chest. Was he just glancing at her?

The district head went up on stage and gave a short speech, wishing everyone success and offering congratulations. Then the awards part started.

“First, we’ll present the team awards. The Best Technological Achievement goes to…”

As the host read out the names, three teams went on stage. Each team got a trophy from the district head.
