Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 264

The cafe downstairs was quiet. Rebecca took a seat while Alan pushed a cup of coffee towards her, trying a little too hard to please her. "The coffee here is really good. You should give it a try."

She didn't even glance at the cup. Her eyes were fixed on him, cold and unblinking. "Just get to the point. I have work to do."

Alan tried to play it cool. "Just taste the coffee first."

Her tone got even sharper. "I don't want any, and I don't have time to waste on this. If you have something to say, say it now. Or I'm heading upstairs."

"Wait, Rebecca," Alan said, sighing loudly. "I know you hate me, but back then, I really didn't have a choice."

Rebecca gave a bitter little laugh. "Right. My mom worked herself sick to support the family, and you just sat around enjoying life. Of course you had no choice."

Back when Rebecca was just a baby, Alan had lost his job. He was too proud to look for another one, so he spent his days drinking and playing mahjong with friends. Then he met Avery, divorced Samantha, and never paid a dime in child support. Now, sitting across from Rebecca, he was saying he had no choice? Seriously?

Alan looked like he wanted to argue, but he changed the subject instead. "Are you free soon? Sonja really wants to have dinner with you. I heard you used to be colleagues. It could be nice to catch up. You know, since you'll be sisters soon. One big family."

One big family. Rebecca almost laughed out loud. There was no way in this lifetime she'd ever see Sonja as her sister. She could tell this was all Sonja's idea, trying to get under her skin.

"Do me a favor and tell Sonja I have zero interest in being sisters with someone who faked her degree and specializes in stealing other people's fiancés."

She looked Alan right in the eye. "And you. Stop reaching out to me. If you show up again, I'll make sure everyone at Campbell Group knows exactly what kind of person you used to be."
