Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 298

“I think… someone got lost on the mountain. A man just grabbed an umbrella and went to look for them.”

Before she could finish, Paul had already snatched the umbrella from her hand and dashed into the pouring rain.

“Paul!” Morris shouted after him, but it was pointless. Paul was gone.

Morris watched his friend’s silhouette fade in the storm and let out a curse. Seriously? Paul’s feelings for Rebecca went even deeper than he’d realized. If not, he wouldn’t have lost his cool just hearing she might be in trouble. This was a mess, plain and simple.

He turned around and found Bruce and Sonja standing right behind him. Bruce frowned. “Why did Paul run out into the rain like that?”

“He…” Morris hesitated. He couldn’t just blurt out that Paul had gone after Bruce’s ex. Their friendship had lasted over ten years. It couldn’t fall apart over a girl.

He made up his mind and forced a smile, spinning a quick lie. “Paul said he hasn’t gone for a walk in the rain in ages. He wanted to enjoy it.”

Bruce didn’t seem to doubt him. He knew Paul could be a sentimental guy. Walking in the rain sounded just like something he’d do. Sonja, on the other hand, just scoffed.

Meanwhile, Rebecca was curled up in a little cave, soaked to the bone. She’d slipped on a rock and slid down the slope, spotting the cave just in time to crawl inside and hide from the downpour. It was so much colder up here than at the base of the mountain. She was shivering, her teeth nearly chattering.

The cave was empty, nothing to help her get warm. All she could do was silently hope the rain would stop soon. She couldn’t try to climb up or down in this weather. She was stuck at an awkward height, stranded between the top and bottom of the mountain.

Half an hour crawled by. The rain eased up a little, but there was no sign it would let up for good. Standing at the cave’s mouth, Rebecca felt anxiety creep through her. Did anyone even realize she was trapped up here? If they did, were they worried about her?

She checked her bag and saw her phone, ruined by water. It was completely dead. No way to call for help.
