Morris could tell Paul was about to spiral, so he grabbed his arm and tried to pull him back. “Come on, Paul. What’s the point of getting worked up over this? Fortune sticks only work if you believe in them. If you don’t, just let it go.”
Paul didn’t budge. “I trust in hard work more than fate,” he said, his voice steady.
Heading down the mountain, Bruce kept glancing at Paul. Something was off about him today, especially when they were drawing fortunes. It was like watching a stranger, someone totally out of control. Bruce had never seen him like this.
He slowed down and nudged Morris. “Has something happened with Paul recently?”
Morris looked a little guilty. “I heard his father has been sending him out of town more lately. All that traveling must be throwing him off balance.”
Bruce didn’t look convinced. Sonja, walking just a few steps away, clearly knew more than she let on. She scoffed. “Please. It’s not the travel. I’d bet he’s dealing with a breakup.”
Bruce stopped in his tracks. “A breakup? With the girl from New Year’s? I haven’t heard him mention her in a while.”
Morris scrambled for an answer. “Maybe. But it’s really nothing. Paul’s good-looking, he’ll have girls lining up for him. Actually, do you guys know why Paul’s father has been sending him away so much? Is the Larson family expanding or something?”
The question worked. Bruce’s attention shifted. “Yeah, actually. He mentioned the northern market is wide open. They’re probably planning a new branch there.”
The two of them launched into a conversation about the latest changes in the investment world. Sonja just smirked to herself. She knew exactly why Paul was getting sent away so often. She was the one who sent those photos to Alexis.
Rebecca, don’t fool yourself. Getting dumped by Bruce doesn’t mean you can just waltz into the Larson family. You and your broke mother will always stay at the bottom, right where you belong.
After lunch, the Sunforge Tech team-building event wrapped up, and everyone piled onto the bus for the ride back to the city.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
Can't wait for the next update! 😍...
Honestly, Rebecca's mother needs to be called out for pettiness. At the same time, Rebecca needs to explain her work situation to her mother....
