Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 308

Bruce’s brow knitted in frustration. “She blocked me.” He looked up at Avery, his eyes searching. “Aunt Avery, can you just be honest with me? Did Sonja really do it?”

Avery’s face changed. Her eyes flickered, as if she was searching for the right words.

“Bruce!” Kelley cut in sharply. “What kind of question is that? Of course Sonja didn’t do it. She has a Ph.D. Why would she even care about someone else’s research? It’s so obvious Rebecca set her up. How can you doubt Sonja? You’ve known her for more than ten years. Don’t you know what she’s like?”

Bruce looked defeated. He tugged at his tie and rubbed his forehead. “I know, I wasn’t thinking straight. Of course I trust Sonja.”

Kelley pressed on. “What matters now is getting Sonja a good lawyer. If no one in Coralbridge will take the case, what about somewhere else? Do you know anyone?”

Bruce nodded, a little more determined. “Mom, Aunt Avery, I know someone in Harbor City who owns a law firm. Let me handle this.”

The next day, a lawyer from Harbor City arrived to take Sonja’s case. He made it clear—Sonja denied everything Martha accused her of.

A day later, everything flipped. Martha, still locked up, suddenly changed her story. She admitted that her earlier accusations against Sonja were a mistake, that Rebecca had influenced her. She claimed she acted on her own and that Sonja was innocent.

Rebecca and Cindy were both at work when they got the news. The moment they saw the message, anger surged through them. They got in the car and headed straight for the police station.

Mr. Keith was already waiting at the entrance. When Rebecca stepped out of the car, he let out a weary sigh. “I’m sorry, Ms. Harper.”

Rebecca gave him a polite nod. “Mr. Keith, I know you did your best.”

No one could have seen Martha’s sudden confession coming.
