Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 309

“If you still can’t let it go, if you’re upset, just take it out on me.”

Honestly, when Bruce heard Rebecca throw those accusations at Sonja, he couldn’t help but feel a weird flicker of satisfaction. He was tired of that calm, unreadable look Rebecca always wore. The only time he really felt her presence was when she snapped back at him, even if she was just yelling. At least then, it meant she still cared. If she wanted to argue, he was more than happy to play along.

Sometimes, when things get so ridiculous you can’t even find the words, all you can do is laugh. Faced with those baseless accusations, Rebecca didn’t get angry. She just smiled and sat quietly, watching the scene unfold. When everyone finally finished, she lifted an eyebrow.

“Are you done?” Her gaze landed on Sonja. She gave a little smirk. “Sonja, I didn’t want to go there with you, but you just keep pushing. So let’s see who gets the last laugh.”

Cindy jumped in, crossing her arms. “Exactly. The truth always comes out. No one can fake it forever.”

Kelley was steaming. “Sonja let you off easy, and now you’ve got the nerve to threaten her? You sure think a lot of yourself.”

She wanted to keep going, but Sonja cut her off, her voice gentle as she patted Kelley’s arm. “Don’t let people who don’t matter get to you.”

Kelley sighed. “Sonja, you’re so good to me. I’m so glad you’re the one marrying my son.”

Sonja smiled. “You must be tired. Let me walk you to your car.”

At the police station entrance, the two families went their separate ways. Sonja turned back for one last look at Rebecca, flashing a smug little smile. Rebecca’s hands tightened into fists at her sides.

In the car, Sonja’s smile faded instantly. Sitting in the back seat, Avery turned to her, concerned. “How were the last couple of days in detention? Did anyone give you trouble?”

Sonja shook her head. “No, you took care of everything. Who’d dare mess with me? Oh, and Mom, about Martha’s family…”

Avery waved her hand. “Don’t worry. I’ve already spoken to them. I gave them two million for their silence. Martha just needs to pay a fine and do about four years in prison. I’ll see about getting her out early. Compared to two million dollars, they know which side their bread is buttered on. It’s over. This won’t touch you.”

Sonja slumped against her mother’s shoulder and let out a long breath. “Thank goodness.”

He answered, sounding as lazy as ever. “Hey. What’s up? It’s Monday. Neither of you are at the office. Sneaking off together?”

Sonja rolled her eyes. She was used to his sarcasm and didn’t bother to argue. She lowered her voice. “Just hold onto that code and data I gave you last time for now. Don’t file for the patent yet.”

Shawn kicked his feet up on the desk. “What’s the matter? Did you steal it? Is the real owner banging on your door now?”

“Shut up!” Sonja snapped. “I didn’t steal anything, so stop talking nonsense. Just do what I said and keep quiet.”

“Alright, alright. Got it.”

After the call, Shawn opened the voice recorder on his phone. Their conversation played back, every word crystal clear. He listened, a silent smile curling on his lips.
