Lottie burst out laughing, her gaze locked on Rebecca’s face. She seemed determined to see how long Rebecca could keep up that cool, unbothered act.
Rebecca didn’t so much as blink. Whatever Lottie said just seemed to float right by her.
Annoyed, Lottie stepped closer and patted her own stomach, faking surprise. “Oh wow, Rebecca, I didn’t mean anything by what I said just now. You don’t think I was talking about you, right?”
Rebecca looked at her, cold as ever. “No.”
“So then…”
“I didn’t hear anything worth listening to.”
Lottie’s face turned red. “What are you talking about?”
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. “Did I mention your name? Don’t flatter yourself.”
“You…” Lottie’s chest was rising and falling with anger. She let out a sharp laugh. “What are you even so proud of? Your ex dumped you and moved on to someone else in no time. The first half of your life is just one big failure.”
Rebecca just watched her, eyes icy, as if Lottie’s outburst was nothing more than background noise.
“My life isn’t going to be ruined by a few petty words from you. I’m not going to torture myself over someone else’s mistakes either. But you… you’re pregnant and not even married. Does the Bernan family know? Does Morris know?”
Lottie’s face went pale. “How did you know the baby is—”
Before she could finish, another fitting room door slammed open.
