“So, are you going to warn Lottie or not?”
Rebecca hesitated for a moment. “She deleted my number ages ago. Even if I wanted to warn her, I couldn’t get in touch.” Besides, the last time she saw Lottie, she was all cocky and full of herself. Rebecca doubted Lottie would listen anyway. Forget it. Lottie had made her choices. She probably knew exactly what she was doing. Rebecca didn’t want to get involved in other people’s messes.
“Alright, let’s get some sleep. And seriously, don’t get so reckless next time.” Rebecca gave Cindy’s shoulder a gentle pat.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ve learned my lesson. I get it.” Cindy grinned, her voice light.
The moonlight poured in, soft and clear. Some people drifted off without a care. Others lay awake, staring at the ceiling, thoughts running wild.
That night, Morris caught a late flight straight back to Coralbridge. As soon as he landed, he called Sonja.
“Hey, Sonja, do you know where Lottie is? I didn’t see her at the last team event.”
Sonja was jolted awake by the call, barely stopping herself from cursing out loud.
“She quit right before the event,” she answered, groggy and annoyed. “Said she wasn’t feeling well. Why? What do you want with her?”
Morris let out a soft laugh. “Nothing important. Sorry for waking you.”
He was about to hang up when Sonja called his name again, yawning.
“Morris, I’m begging you. Even if you’re desperate, have some standards. Don’t just hook up with anyone. Lottie’s had her fair share, you know?”
“I know. Get some sleep.” Morris’s tone softened. “You and Bruce have been busy with the engagement. When things settle down, let’s all catch up.”
Outside, the city was silent, streets empty under the inky sky. For a moment, Morris felt strangely nostalgic.
“It’s been ages since the four of us really got together,” he said quietly.
“Of course I am,” Madison said quickly. “I just thought you’d be away on business for longer. I wasn’t expecting you back so soon.”
“The project’s going fine. And with Bruce and Sonja’s engagement coming up, I figured I’d see if you needed any help.”
Just hearing that made Madison’s frustration bubble up.
“Look at them,” she sighed. “They’re moving from dating to marriage without missing a beat. And then there’s you. I’ve set you up on so many blind dates. How is it possible that none of them interested you?”
Just thinking about it made her want to scream. She’d tolerated Lottie’s attitude, pampering her like some VIP, all to make sure her son’s dating life stayed on track. But after all this time, he still hadn’t picked anyone. He was driving her crazy.
But that wasn’t all that bothered her. Deep down, Madison had her own selfish reasons. If her son insisted on living a bachelor’s life forever, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to keep Lottie’s baby. It was Terry family blood, after all. She could always tell people she’d adopted the child. That way, even if Morris never married, there would still be an heir.
All of this left Madison feeling conflicted about Lottie. She wanted one thing one moment, something else the next, never able to really make up her mind.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
