Lottie tried to swallow her sobs, keeping her voice low. “Mom, I’m in trouble. Please, send someone for me. I’m at the hospital. They… they want to kill me.”

“What are you even talking about? Who wants to kill you? Is this another excuse? I’m telling you, get home now. Lewis has been waiting for you. If you don’t come back, he’ll find someone else, and you’ll regret it forever!”
