When Bruce heard that, he look shocked. His expression darkened, and he blurted out, “No way. Sonja would never do something like that.”
Rebecca’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Really? I hope I’m wrong about her. But first, I need to see her.”
Bruce hesitated, just as Morris rushed over, out of breath.
“Bruce, don’t let her in to see Sonja. Today’s your engagement. She’s only here to stir up trouble and ruin everything. She’s obviously not over you and wants to mess with Sonja. You can’t let her get what she wants.”
Rebecca glanced at the man standing by the stairs and said, almost bored, “With that wild imagination, Morris, you missed your calling as a tabloid reporter.”
Morris was left speechless, his face burning with embarrassment and fury. He could feel the veins throbbing on his forehead. He stomped forward, ready to give Rebecca a piece of his mind.
But before he could get close, Paul stepped in front of Rebecca, shielding her with his body. His voice was low, dangerous. “Don’t you dare touch her.”
Morris snapped, “Paul, do you even hear yourself? You’re totally wrapped around her fingers!”
The shouting at the entrance was so loud that everyone inside could hear it. The two young makeup artists kept working but exchanged glances. One of them whispered, “There’s a commotion at the door. Do you want to go check?”
Sonja traced her red lips in the mirror, looking amused. “Sure. As soon as you finish my eyebrows.”
By the time Sonja swept out in her long gown, tension at the doorway was at its breaking point.
