Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 383

Hailey Lamont was the eldest daughter of the family. Rebecca had only ever seen her from afar, so today was the first time they’d actually met face to face.

Back when Rebecca was dating Bruce, the only Lamont family member she’d met was Hector. She’d always known that Cooper and Hailey didn’t like Bruce and his mother. Hailey seemed to outright despise them. Naturally, Hailey had never warmed up to Rebecca either.

From Bruce’s occasional complaints, Rebecca had picked up that he wanted to work at Lamont Inc., but Hailey was dead set against it. She made sure Bruce and his mother stayed far away from the family business. Cooper felt guilty about her wife’s early death, and tended to give Hailey whatever she wanted. He was big on family reputation too, so he just went along with Hailey’s decision.

At the time, Rebecca barely knew anything about Hailey. Everything she thought about her came from Bruce’s point of view. After she and Bruce broke up, she started seeing Hailey’s name pop up in newspapers and on the news. Now that she wasn’t looking at Hailey through the lens of being Bruce’s girlfriend, she actually started to admire her. Hector was famously old-fashioned and never believed in Hailey’s abilities, but she ran Lamont Inc. like a pro and proved him and his supporters completely wrong. Women like Hailey were role models for everyone.

“Ms. Harper, hello. I’m Hailey,” she said, reaching out for a handshake.

Rebecca shook her hand. “Hi, Ms. Lamont.”

Once they sat down, Rebecca figured Hailey would bring up the incident on stage. But to her surprise, she didn’t mention it at all.

Instead, Hailey slipped right into her power-player persona. “I’ve heard so much about you, Ms. Harper. I’m really interested in the products your team developed. Lamont Inc. owns several investment firms, and we’re looking to try out some advanced systems. Do you have any recommendations for us?”

Rebecca blinked, caught off guard. Was Hailey really talking business all of a sudden?

And wasn’t NovaStack Cloud, her own brother’s company, offering similar products? Was Hailey just ignoring family ties in front of everyone?

Hailey folded her arms and smiled. “We only work with the best in the industry. We don’t give special treatment to anyone, even if they’re family.”

That was a clear compliment to Sunforge Tech and a not-so-subtle snub to NovaStack Cloud.

Rebecca rolled with it and dove into the business talk.

Twenty minutes later, they’d exchanged business cards and shook hands again.
