Cindy leaned in and asked, “What did she want from you? Was she giving you a hard time?”

Rebecca shook her head. “No, not at all. She actually wanted to talk business with me. By the way, are you sure you didn’t leak that stuff online?”

“I swear it wasn’t me.” Cindy pulled Rebecca aside into the corner and handed her the phone.

On the screen was her chat with a private investigator. Cindy had messaged asking why he went ahead and leaked things before she told him to. The guy replied with a bunch of confused emojis. He said, “It wasn’t me. I’m still sorting through the evidence.”

Rebecca went quiet. If it wasn’t Cindy, then who? Who was out there helping them from the shadows?

“It was me.”

As they stood there, Stephen walked over.

The three of them stepped out into the hallway together.

Stephen’s voice was low and serious. “I had my people team up with Cindy’s investigator to dig into things. I wasn’t planning to release anything today, but after I heard what happened with your mom this morning, I changed my mind. She just won’t top unless you hit her where it hurts.”

Rebecca hadn’t realized Stephen was involved too. And he’d even changed his plans for her. It made her heart melt a little.

“Whoa, Stephen, you’re such a badass!” Cindy’s eyes sparkled. “Alright, I’ll tell my investigator to release everything he’s got too. Let’s give Sonja a double whammy.”

Stephen nodded, but his frown only deepened.

“There’s something weird, though. I think there’s someone else out there, doing the same thing we are, hiding in the background,” he said.

Rebecca and Cindy both stared at him. “What do you mean?”

Stephen explained, “The stuff about her time overseas, that was us. But the details about her life here wasn’t from any of my people. We didn’t even know about it.”

Rebecca and Cindy immediately pulled out their phones.
