Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 387

Hector’s eyebrows pulled together as he gave Sonja and her mother a frosty look. “True or not, it doesn’t matter right now. We need to handle the PR mess fast. Get those trending topics taken down before this gets any worse. As for who started the rumors, the Campbell family needs to help with the investigation.”

He motioned for his assistant to get on it right away. If today wasn’t such a big deal, Hector would never have used the Lamont family’s influence for this. But if they didn’t act now, the whole family would end up as the center of the hottest gossip.

Sonja and her mother finally breathed a little easier. Still, the next part of the ceremony was supposed to go on. Skipping it would be a real scandal.

Avery spoke up, careful and polite. “Cooper, everyone in the banquet hall is still waiting for Bruce and Sonja. Maybe we should head out and—”

“The banquet is canceled. Bruce, you’re going to apologize to our most important guests in person.” Cooper’s voice was stern and final.

Sonja bit her lip, her cheeks burning with humiliation. “But Grandpa, this is the most important day of my life…”

She tried to say more, but Avery quickly covered her mouth. “Cooper’s right. Let’s leave it for today. You must be tired. Get some rest, and let us handle the rest.” She managed a strained smile.

Cooper gave a short, cold grunt and, leaning on the staff, left the hotel. Hector and Kelley followed him out to the banquet hall.

That left only the three Campbells and Bruce backstage.

Sonja’s voice shook with anger. “This is my engagement party. Bruce and I are supposed to be the center of attention. If we don’t greet the guests, everyone will laugh at us.”

Avery tried to soothe her. “That doesn’t matter right now.”

Sonja’s eyes filled with tears. “How can you say that? This is supposed to be the happiest day of my life, and look how I’m being treated. Mom, I feel so humiliated.”
