It was their first date and neither of them could quite relax. After lunch, Stephen reached for Rebecca’s hand. At first, his fingers just brushed against hers, gentle and tentative, but then he laced their fingers together, holding on tight. Rebecca glanced down, watching her small hand swallowed up by his warm, steady grip, her cheeks turning pink.
Stephen caught her reaction and grinned. “So, where do you want to go this afternoon?”
Rebecca shrugged. “Anywhere’s fine with me.”
Stephen rubbed his chin, pretending to think. “You know, I read somewhere that when a girl says ‘anything is fine,’ she actually wants you to guess what she really wants. Is that true?”
Rebecca couldn’t help laughing. “That’s not me. I honestly don’t mind. Anything’s good.”
As long as I’m with you.
Stephen had done his homework. He knew she liked quieter spots and didn’t love crowds, so he suggested, “There’s a new artifacts exhibition nearby. It shouldn’t be busy. Want to check it out?”
Rebecca’s eyes lit up. “Yeah, that sounds perfect.”
When they got there, it was just as Stephen said. The space was calm and the exhibits were way more impressive than either of them expected. Rebecca was instantly drawn in, her curiosity taking over.
She tugged at his sleeve. “Should we get a guide?”
Stephen looked down at her, smiling. “No need. You’ve already got one right here.”
Rebecca blinked. “Wait, you know about this stuff?”
Stephen squeezed her hand, pretending to be offended. “Don’t underestimate me. Just wait, I’ll blow your mind.”
The truth was, he didn’t know that much. He’d stayed up late the night before, reading everything he could find.
Rebecca giggled. “I’d never underestimate you. Dr. Palmer told us you were kind of a legend at Larkhaven College. Apparently you had a whole fan club, and half the students in the electives were there because of you.”
Stephen shook his head, laughing softly. “My uncle loves to exaggerate.”
Rebecca grinned, then shot him a sly look. “So, Mr. Duncan, how many girlfriends have you had?”
Stephen froze for a second, then gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “So that’s what all the compliments were for. I walked right into your trap.”

Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
