Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 425

Joan’s voice shook with urgency. “Yes, I want to go back as soon as I can. Please, Brett, help me.”

Brett frowned, lines creasing his forehead. “Why do you want to go back?”

Bitterness clawed at his chest. He couldn’t stop thinking about Joan’s past with Stephen. The story always felt like something out of a novel—a wealthy young heir and the beautiful daughter of a chauffeur, hopelessly in love. But everything fell apart after that car accident. Their love turned to resentment, just when they needed each other most.

People always say the worst thing in love isn’t falling out of it, but loving someone you can never have. That kind of regret sticks with you. It’s not as simple or as clean as falling out of love. It lingers, hanging between hope and heartbreak, never letting you truly move on.

You still care, but you have to let go. The feeling doesn’t crash over you like a storm, it seeps in slowly, dampening everything inside you until you feel like you’re molding from the inside out, with nowhere to let your heart dry out in the sun.

All these years, Brett never asked Joan if she still thought about Stephen. He tiptoed around it, afraid of the answer. But now, hearing her say she wanted to go back, the thought wouldn’t leave him.

His chest tightened, every breath feeling heavy.

“Brett, ever since you sent me that photo of my father’s grave, I can’t sleep. Every night I have nightmares. In my dreams, my dad is angry with me. He keeps asking why I never visit, why I stayed away so long. He calls me an unfilial daughter.” Joan’s voice broke as she started to sob.

“Brett, please help me. Help me go home, just this once. I just want to see him, and then I’ll leave.”

Brett tugged at the collar of his shirt, feeling the air grow thick around him. His face was hidden in the shadows, and for a long moment he just closed his eyes. “Alright.”

Joan’s tears turned into a shaky laugh. “Thank you, Brett. You’re always so good to me.”

He gave a weak smile, lips pressed together. “Joan, you know how I feel. You don’t need to thank me.”

She didn’t answer that, just changed the subject with a burst of energy. “Didn’t you say your grandpa gave you a job at the company?”

“Yeah.”
