At lunch, Cindy decided to celebrate their office move in style. She waved her hand and invited everyone from the fifteenth floor out for a meal.

They went to the hotel next door and booked three private rooms.

Of course, Cindy, Rebecca, and Jon ended up sitting together.

Halfway through the meal, Cindy brought up Brett and let out a sigh. “He used to be the sweetest. He was just this little ball of fluff, tagging along behind me and Stephen. Who would’ve thought things would turn out like this? Life can be so harsh sometimes.”

Cindy was usually the life of the party, always cheerful and full of energy, so her sudden sadness caught everyone off guard.

Jon pressed his lips together and poured her a glass of juice. “Here, have something sweet. It’ll cheer you up.”

Cindy shot him a look and pouted. “Yesterday you said juice wasn’t healthy.”

Jon reached over and gently ruffled her hair. “Your happiness matters more than health tips.”

Cindy moved away from him, not hiding her annoyance. “Keep your hands to yourself.”

Jon awkwardly dropped his hand and cleared his throat.

Rebecca jumped in, smiling to break the tension. “Alright, let’s eat. Oh, Jon, can you set up an R&D engineer to go with me to Lamont Inc. this afternoon?”

Cindy blinked in surprise. “Wait, Lamont Inc. wants to buy our product? Are they out of their minds? They have NovaStack Cloud, why would they buy from us?”

Jon looked worried too. “Is there something we’re missing?”

Actually, there was nothing shady going on. The deal was Hailey’s idea.

After the engagement party, Hailey hadn’t followed up, so Rebecca had thought the whole thing was a lost cause.
