Sonja took a deep breath, forcing a smile back onto her face. “Rebecca is always up to something, isn’t she? Always trying to steal our people. But honestly, if they are not loyal, I don’t see why we should try to make them stay.”
Bruce let out a cold laugh, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it with a snap. “You’re way off. No one got lured away. They applied over there themselves. And trust me, people are lining up for a shot at Sunforge Tech.”
Sonja finally lost her patience with his attitude.
She dropped onto the sofa, crossed her legs, folded her arms, and tilted her chin up. “So, let me get this straight. You’re blaming me for not keeping things together while you were gone?”
“Bruce, it hurts to hear you say that. The whole project team can back me up. I spent my days out meeting clients and my nights burning the midnight oil writing proposals. I kept this company running all by myself. If you don’t believe me, just ask around. It wasn’t easy.”
He just smirked. Then he opened the drawer, pulled out a USB drive, and tossed it onto the table.
“There are cameras everywhere in this place. Did you really think I wouldn’t know exactly when you came and left every day?”
Sonja went still.
She never expected Bruce to actually check the security footage just to monitor her.
Her hands curled into fists.
She stared down, silent.
When she looked up again, her eyes were bright with unshed tears.
“Bruce, since the day I joined, I’ve treated this company like my own child. I’ve put in just as much as you. We’re engaged, remember? This company is half mine. If it does well, I benefit too. Maybe I couldn’t stay on top of everything lately, with all that’s happened, but your attitude right now... it’s honestly breaking my heart. I—”
“What did you just say?”
Sonja let out a soft laugh. She reached into her handbag and pulled out a stack of stock agreements and the company seal, waving them in front of him. “While you were gone, I became the largest shareholder. Here’s proof. NovaStack Cloud belongs to me now. You’re not the boss anymore. I am.”
Her smile was dangerous, sharp.
“But really, I owe you a thank you. Actually, scratch that. The person I should thank most is your ex-girlfriend. If she wasn’t so competent, I never would’ve had this chance. You and this company owe her. Without all her careful work, I wouldn’t have had the chance to take it all. So, when I thanked her at the engagement party, I truly meant it. Now do you believe me?”
Bruce shot up from his chair, but the world tilted beneath him.
He had to put both hands on the desk to steady himself as everything blurred.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
