Rebecca stopped in her tracks as she saw Brett and Marissa sitting in the reception area.

“Mr. Duncan,” she greeted Brett with a polite nod.

She took a seat, curiosity flickering in her eyes. “What brings you here?”

Before Brett could reply, Marissa jumped in. “Is that how you talk to Mr. Duncan? He’s the head of Sunforge Tech. He can meet with whoever he wants, whenever he wants. You have no say in it. Rebecca, I think you need a reminder about your position. You’re just a vice president. Don’t go thinking you can act out just because you’ve got someone important backing you.”

Rebecca glanced at her with a cool, almost bored look. That was enough to make Marissa hesitate.

“Interesting that you’re reminding me about position, Marissa,” Rebecca said, her tone light. “Let me return the favor. Don’t think you can pick a fight with me just because someone’s supporting you. I got this job on my own merit and skills. As for how you got in, well, you know the answer better than anyone.”
