Rebecca went quiet. She glanced at her watch. Her meeting with Timothy was at three, less than ten minutes away. According to the schedule, she should be first.

But Brett was now the boss of Sunforge Tech. Timothy would probably want to see him first, just out of respect. If that happened, there wouldn’t be much time left for Rebecca. Bank presidents had packed schedules. No way would he waste extra time on a single vendor.

The ideal solution would be a joint meeting. That would save everyone time. But the way Brett sounded earlier... he definitely wouldn’t go for it.

Rebecca let out a slow breath, torn about whether she should just leave right now.

The door to the waiting room opened. A young lady with a fresh, nervous face poked her head in. “Excuse me, which of you is the head of Sunforge Tech?”

Marissa’s eyes lit up. She pointed at Brett, practically bouncing. “That’s our Mr. Duncan. He’s the boss.”

Then she shot Rebecca a smug look, as if to say, See? We win.

Rebecca just looked back, completely unfazed.

The president’s assistant was waiting outside the office. He looked surprised when the young lady showed up with Brett. His frown deepened.

“I asked for the head of Sunforge Tech. Who is this?”

The young lady glanced at Brett, then at the assistant. Her cheeks turned pink. “This gentleman told me he was in charge.”

Timothy looked surprised too. He studied Brett for a second. “Ms. Harper left the company? That can’t be. We just spoke yesterday.”

Brett handed over a business card. “Hello, I’m Brett Duncan, the new CEO of Sunforge Tech. I’m here to meet with Mr. Timothy.”

The assistant froze. Sunforge Tech had a new CEO? Since when? How did this slip past him?

He adjusted his glasses. “I’m sorry, Mr. Duncan. You don’t have an appointment, so I’ll have to check first.”

Brett straightened his sleeves. “Of course. I understand.”
