Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 507

Colton sat back, legs crossed, and gave Joan a lazy sideways look. “You upset I got out early?” He didn’t wait for her to answer, just smirked to himself. “Of course you’re upset. You were this close to landing yourself a cushy future thanks to that kid, and now I show up. If I happen to let something slip, all those dreams of marrying into money go up in smoke.”

“That’s enough. Stop threatening me.” Joan jumped to her feet so fast her chair nearly fell over. The sunlight was behind her, but all she could see was Colton’s one cold eye, and it made her stomach turn.

Her voice shook with anger. “If you hadn’t dragged my dad into your gambling mess, he never would have owed so much money to those loan sharks. He wouldn’t have ruined his life. This is all your fault. You’re the reason everything fell apart.”

Neil and Colton were brothers, born into the same poor village. They had dropped out of school early to scrape by. One went south, one went north. After years of struggle, Neil got lucky. He landed a job with the Duncan family, worked hard, and earned George’s trust. Then he became the head butler, with a solid salary and good perks.

Colton wasn’t so lucky. Things didn’t work out for him in the south, so he went north, hoping Neil would help him out. Neil knew exactly what kind of trouble Colton could cause. He didn’t get him a job with the Duncans, but he did find him a decent gig as a security guard at another mansion.

But standing at those gates, watching the rich folks come and go, Colton got restless. He started dreaming about easy money. That’s when he picked up gambling. It started online, then moved to shady games in back rooms, and before long, he was drowning in debt.

When he couldn’t pay, Colton got desperate. He decided to drag his brother into it, hoping Neil could figure something out. After all, Neil worked for rich people, and everyone said the Duncans had good hearts. Colton figured if his brother just asked, they’d throw some money his way and that would be that.
