Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 518

Rebecca hesitated, not sure if the question was meant for her.

Cindy let out a snort, looping her arm around Rebecca’s shoulders. She put on her most dramatic, sarcastic voice. “Oh, she’s doing fantastic. Honestly, better with every passing day. First, there was that man she got set up with, and now there are all these cute younger guys. Every one of them is a hundred times better than a certain someone.”

Stephen’s eyes narrowed, his tone sharp. “What set up?”

Rebecca rushed to explain. “Uh, it really wasn’t what it looked like... just a misunderstanding...”

Cindy jumped right in. “What misunderstanding? That guy is totally into you. He checks in every morning and night. Anyone can see he likes you.”

Rebecca tried to cover Cindy’s mouth, but Cindy caught her hands and held them tight.

“Hehe, we can just enjoy watch certain people regret their choices. Your best days are still ahead.”

Without another thought, Cindy hit the end call button, not worrying at all about her brother's reaction.

Jon looked at his now-black phone screen and just shook his head, resigned. He turned to Stephen. “Don’t take Cindy too seriously, but…”

Jon paused, choosing his words. “The family dinner is this Saturday. Are you really just going to let things keep going like this?”

He pulled an invitation out of his pocket and set it down on the table.

It was from the Duncan family estate. George had only invited the people closest to the family this time. The Garfield family made the list, thanks to their long friendship with Stephen’s father and the ongoing business between the two families.

Stephen’s eyes lingered on the invitation for a few seconds before he looked away. “You know how it is. Once my grandfather decides something, there’s nothing I can do to change his mind.”

Jon pressed him. “But you could just not show up.”

Even worse, the rumors were spreading, and the company’s stock price was feeling the heat. When the market opened that morning, shares tanked, wiping out everything they’d gained after the Q2 report.

Word had it the board and the major shareholders had already put pressure on George. Fix this fast, or else they’d look for someone else who could.

On the way back, Brett’s grandfather called to pass on the board’s and shareholders’ not-so-subtle frustration.

George’s voice was serious. “Brett, if you’re not strong enough to win a fight, don’t go head to head. Sometimes you need to take a step back and say sorry. That’s not weakness. Real strength is knowing when to bend and when to stand tall.”

Apologize to Rebecca? Brett scoffed at the thought. She didn’t deserve that. No way would he let anyone who hurt Joan off the hook so easily.

But what about all these clients? Something needed to be done.

Brett pressed his fingers to his temples, thinking hard. Suddenly, a plan came to him. He sat up straight, called out, “Marissa, get Cindy on the line.”
