Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 537

The Garfield family?

George’s mind spun with questions. Why would the Garfields want to see him? Sure, the younger folks from both families got along well enough, but he and Charlie had always kept things pretty formal.

Still puzzled, George had the Garfields shown into the living room.

Charlie sat in the center of the room with Richie. Both of them were silent, waiting patiently for George to arrive.

Not long after, George entered, leaning on Frank’s arm for support.

“Mr. Duncan,” Charlie called out, getting up quickly to greet him. Richie stood too and nodded. “Hello.”

George waved them off. “No need to stand on ceremony. Grab a seat.”

The housekeeper arrived with his favorite tea, the kind he always drank.

Charlie started off with a few polite words, asking about recent events with the Duncan family and checking in on George’s health. George smiled, made some small talk, and then set his cup down.

He looked at them with a grin. “Come on, we’re hardly strangers. Whatever you want to say, just say it.”

With the gifts they brought and the fact that Charlie had brought his son along, George could guess they had come with a request.

Charlie smiled, a bit sheepish. “I knew I couldn’t hide anything from you.”

He glanced at Richie, then said, “This is my son, Richie. He’s been working with me at Garfield Corporation. The kid’s got a real head for business. Ever since he took on more responsibility, our numbers have only gone up. Of course, he can’t quite compare to Stephen, but next to other heirs, he’s quite impressive.”

George gave Richie an approving look. “I’ve heard all about Richie, even in my retirement. Like father, like son, as they say. And he’s not just smart, he’s got the looks too. A very promising young man.”

Charlie’s heart skipped a beat. With praise like that, he thought, this just might work.

Charlie explained, “Well, to be honest, Jon and Cindy are closer in age, so they’d be a good match. But Jon is always buried in work. I rarely see him at home. Even if he had a girlfriend, I doubt he’d know how to take care of her. Richie’s a bit older than Cindy, but sometimes being older means knowing how to treat a girl right. What do you think, Mr. Duncan?”

George set his teacup down and really looked at Richie.

Richie looked every bit the classic executive—handsome, sharp, but with a kind of authority that came from being in charge. Cindy, on the other hand, was lively and fun, always stirring things up. She needed someone who could balance her out, maybe even rein her in a little.

But then George remembered his talk with his grandson earlier that afternoon. Stephen had hated the idea of him meddling in his love life. Cindy might do the same if he tried to arrange her marriage.

These days, all George wanted was a happy, peaceful family.

After a moment, he replied, “Honestly, I’ll need to talk to Cindy and Chelsey about this first.”

Charlie hadn’t expected that. He’d thought George would make the decision right then and there, sealing the deal for their children’s future.
