“I’m sorry. This is all on me. It’s me who talked Cindy into it,” Jon said quietly, taking the blame without hesitation.
Cindy rolled her eyes. “Don’t put it all on yourself. If I didn’t want to, nobody could have made me do anything.”
Stephen let out a dramatic sigh. “Can you two stop being so cute? I came here for tea, not to be force-fed your couple routine.”
Cindy scrunched up her nose at him. “Like you and Rebecca ever worried about us when you were all over each other.”
That got everyone’s attention. Chelsey turned to her son, curiosity in her eyes. “So, what’s going on with you and Rebecca? Did you make up?”
Stephen straightened, looking a little smug. “We never broke up, so there’s nothing to make up. It’s just that some people keep spreading rumors.”
Cindy, who’d definitely been one of those people, gave a sheepish smile and quickly changed the subject. “Anyway, I heard Rebecca’s mom still hasn’t warmed up to you. What are you planning to do about that?”
Chelsey’s eyes widened. “Wait, really? My son is fantastic. Why wouldn’t she like him?”
Well, that was a whole story by itself.
Stephen’s voice turned serious. “I’ll handle it. I don’t want anyone interfering.”
He was sure that if Samantha saw how much he cared about Rebecca, she’d come around eventually. He really believed it. That made his visit this weekend feel like a big deal.
He spent the afternoon online, reading up on everything he could, determined to avoid any possible slip-ups.
After lunch, Cindy and Jon went to the family’s old house to see George. They’d both been nervous, expecting the old man to lose his temper. They were ready for a full-on lecture. But to their surprise, he just looked stunned for a second, then accepted it all without a fuss.
He even welcomed Jon warmly, and not-so-subtly asked when they were planning on having kids.
Later, when Cindy told Rebecca about it, she could only laugh and shake her head.
“He’s getting old,” Rebecca said. “He just got a great-grandson, but Brett took the baby away so soon he hardly got to hold him. Now all he wants is another little one around.”
Cindy propped her chin in her hand, pretending to think. “Makes sense. So, after you and my brother get married, you can have two kids in three years… and maybe three in five?”
Rebecca’s face went pink. She told Cindy to quit it with the crazy ideas.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
