Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 549

Rebecca kept her head down, quietly eating her pasta and listening in. Meanwhile, in the study, Bruce was on the verge of losing it. He clenched his jaw and snapped, “Dr. Jason, you promised you’d be here tomorrow. Now you’re backing out?”

Dr. Jason sounded completely unfazed. “Actually, I’m not the one breaking the deal. I can’t get a hold of Joan, and she hasn’t paid me a single penny of what we agreed on.”

Bruce’s temples throbbed. “How much do you want? Just give me a number.”

Of course it was about money. He’d half expected this man to flake. At least he was mentally prepared for it.

Jason’s voice turned cheerful. “I knew you’d be generous, Mr. Lamont. Always the gentleman.”

“Don’t waste my time. How much?”

“Two hundred thousand pounds. Fifty percent up front.”

Bruce felt his teeth grind together. “Two hundred thousand? For some hypnosis? Any decent hypnotist could handle this.”

Jason chuckled. “No, no, sir. This isn’t a job for just anyone. I’m the only one who knows the effects of the drug and exactly when to start the hypnosis.”

Bruce thought about the vial locked in his safe. There was only one dose and no way to get another. If the timing was off, everything he’d planned would fall apart.

He pressed his lips together. Money could always be made back, but if Rebecca’s memories didn’t come back exactly the way he wanted, then all of this would be for nothing. The risk would mean absolutely nothing.

After a few seconds, Bruce said, “Alright. The deposit will be in your account tonight. You’ll get the rest after the hypnosis is done.”

“Mr. Lamont, I knew you were a true gentleman. Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow. Good night.”

Before bed, Rebecca went to the bathroom. When she opened her door, she saw the maid still standing outside. Rebecca was curious. “Don’t you ever sleep?”

She nodded toward the maid and the guards downstairs.

The maid tried to hide a yawn. “No, Mr. Lamont said I can’t sleep until you’re asleep. The guards switch shifts through the night.”

Rebecca just nodded and headed into the bathroom. Like she’d done earlier, she locked the door and, with the sound of running water to cover her, started working at the window again. This time, she had a small wrench she’d found by a downstairs window during dinner and slipped into her pocket.

It took a lot of effort, but finally the window started to budge. Still, she’d been in there too long. The maid knocked on the door, sounding worried. “Miss, are you alright?”

Rebecca thought fast. If Bruce came up here, she’d blow her chance. She steadied herself, washed her hands, and opened the door with a calm face. “I’m fine.”
