Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 552

Another half hour crawled by. The sky was just beginning to lighten when Bruce woke up, stiff from sleeping on a couch in the study. He looked wrecked. Last night’s shouting match with Dr. Jason had left him tossing and turning, and now his head throbbed. Lying back down wasn’t even an option. Sleep was out of the question.

He got up and walked to the safe, pulling out the bottle of medication he’d hidden there. All his hopes were tied up in this little vial. Fine. He’d inject Rebecca today, wipe her memories clean, and deal with hypnotism later, somewhere safer, with someone he could actually trust. Money was running out. He was too nervous to borrow from Morris, not with the risk of being exposed. Staying here any longer was just asking for trouble. He had to get Rebecca out of here today.

With that plan in mind, Bruce grabbed the safe, opened the door, and headed straight upstairs. As soon as he reached the master bedroom, something felt off. The chain on the door wasn’t in place. His stomach dropped. He pushed open the door. The bed was empty. He ran his hand over the mattress. Cold. She’d been gone for a while.

A flash of panic and anger crossed his face. He barked out, “She’s gone! Find her, now!”

His shout startled the maid in the next room. She stumbled out, half-awake, rubbing her eyes. She didn’t even get a word out before Bruce kicked her to the floor. She curled up, whimpering in pain. Bruce crouched down, grabbing her by the collar.

“Where is she? I told you to keep an eye on her and lock the door!”

The maid was sweating, her voice trembling. “She… she said she didn’t want to bother me in the middle of the night, so she asked me for the key…”

A sharp slap rang out. “Idiot. You just believed her?”

But there was no time to keep yelling. The island was isolated, surrounded by water. Rebecca was on her own, with no way to get far. The most important thing now was to find her before she vanished.

The guards were already waiting out front, cars and motorcycles ready to go. Bruce told them to split up and search all the roads.

“She probably ran toward the pier. Start there.”

“Yes, sir.”

Two guards exchanged uneasy looks. That shadow they’d seen half an hour ago hadn’t been their imagination after all. Neither one said a word. They just wanted to find her fast. If they failed, they knew they weren’t getting paid. Worse, they might not be leaving this place at all.

The sun was climbing, but the island air was damp and cold. Rebecca was shivering, exhausted, but she couldn’t stop. She pushed herself on, running hard for the shoreline. There were barely any people around. She didn’t even consider going to the police. She had no good explanation for how she’d ended up here, and if they caught her, things could get even worse.
